Darbian lowers Super Mario Bros 1 WR to 4:57.260


Darbian has set another Super Mario Bros any% WR, lowering it to 4 minutes, 57 seconds, and 260 milliseconds. This lowers the record by 167 milliseconds from the previous WR.

There has been significant press coverage for this run in particular, with IGN, NPR, Kotaku, Destructoid, Geek.com, several other news outlets, and even was tweeted out by Nintendo of America. The run also reached the YouTube Trending page:


According to the related /r/speedrun thread the only known improvement to be made now involves the flagpole glitch, which can be seen here and could in theory could be used on any level with a flagpole in it. It is apparently extremely difficult to do, with only two people ever doing it on console.
